 Bluetooth Printing

All IQSI mobile products support a wide variety of portable (on-site) printers.
These include IrDA (Infrared) and Wireless (Bluetooth) enabled printers,
and USB-based printers with a Bluetooth 'dongle' inserted in the USB port.
Although it is impractical to provide details for configuring all printers and scanners, below you will find general configuration guidelines applicable to most printers,  and scanners. First, please consult the manual that came with your product.

IQSI Product's printing support use the Bluetooth "Serial Port Profile" - which means that supported Bluetooth hardware and software connect to a Bluetooth-enabled printer using a serial port selection (COM1 - COM8). Below are specific instructions for several Bluetooth solutions. But you should be able to print using any Pocket PC Bluetooth device that supports the "Serial Port Profile" using two basic steps: the Bluetooth manager software should allow you to "search" for available Bluetooth printers it can find. Then you will use the manager software to select the desired printer and assign it to a serial port. Finally, you need to determine which serial port should be used and then select that from the software's Select Printer screen.
Setting up Bluetooth Manager and Searching for your Printer:

bullet

Start Bluetooth Manager.

bullet

If you haven't search for devices or have added a BT printer since last search, tap Search menu at bottom (below left).

bullet

After search is complete, check any BT printers found (below right) and tap Save and then OK.

Connect to Serial Port:

bullet

At main Bluetooth Manager screen you should now see all the BT devices found by the search and selected for use (below left).

bullet

You now want to assign your printer to the Serial Port... Tap on the printer icon to get to it's Device Information (below right).

bullet

Tap on Actions menu and "Connect to Serial Port" (below left). This will take a short time to complete. Now tap OK to return to Devices list.

bullet

After a time, you may get a "Serial Port connection... terminated" message (below right). You can tap OK and ignore this.

Determine Serial Port Assignment:

bullet

At this point, the Compaq Bluetooth manager is all set to support printing to your Bluetooth-enabled printer. Your last step is to find which serial port to use for printing. At the main Bluetooth Manager screen, tap Tools Menu and "Settings for All Devices" (below left).

bullet

At the Settings screen , tap "Serial Port" tab. Note the entry for "Outbound Com Port" (COM8 in screenshot below right).

 Printing with Compaq Bluetooth:

bullet

Now go to your printing software and, at the "Select Printer" screen, select your printer. Tap the "Port" list and select the assigned COM port (below left).

bullet

Now tap "Start Printing" and your Bluetooth printing should be underway.

 When things don't print:

bullet

Make sure that the Bluetooth "radio" is turned on - go to Today screen (Start menu -> Today), tap BT icon at lower right of screen and, at popup menu, tap "Turn radio ON".

bullet

If you go to print and it looks like data is being sent to the printer but nothing prints out, go to Compaq Bluetooth Manager (Start menu -> Bluetooth Manager) and double-check the following (see above for instructions on how to perform these functions):

bullet

You have "discovered" your printer.

bullet

You have connected the printer to the Serial Port

bullet

The printer is powered on.

bullet

Some time after "connecting" a discovered printer to serial port, you may get the message "Serial Port connection to <printername> was terminated". You can ignore this... you should be able to print to your Bluetooth-enabled printer successfully.

bullet

If you use the Bluetooth Manager to discover a printer and then "connect to serial port" and then later do a soft-reset of your device, Bluetooth Manager will not indicate which printer is assigned the serial port. However, Bluetooth Manager will retain the serial port assignment and you do not have to select this again unless you change which printer you are using.

Printing Using Anycom CF Card

Anycom offers two options for Bluetooth printing: using their Bluetooth CF card with a standard Bluetooth-enabled printer, or combining the CF card with their proprietary Bluetooth Printer Module. These offer different printing steps as shown below:

Printing with Anycom CF card and Standard Bluetooth-enabled Printer:

bullet

Use the Anycom Bluetooth Wizard to discover and set up the printer for printing... tap Start menu -> Programs folder -> Bluetooth Wizard (below left).

bullet

In the Bluetooth Wizard, select Serial Port Connection and Next...

bullet

Select local port... note the port number (COM5 below left). You will use this port later with your printing software. Tap Next.

bullet

Turn on your Bluetooth-enabled printer and tap OK (below right).

bullet

The Wizard will search for Bluetooth devices in range... this may take several minutes.

bullet

After device discovery, scroll through the list of devices found and select the printer (below right). Tap Next.

bullet

After receiving a "success" message (below left) tap Finish.

bullet

Go to your printing software. Select the correct Printer type (HP PCL below) and then tap Port list to select COM port (see previous steps). Now tap "Start Printing" and your Bluetooth printing should be underway.

Printing with Anycom CF card and Anycom Printer Module:

bullet

To print with the combination Anycom Bluetooth CF card and Printer Module, go to printing software and, at the "Select Printer" screen, select your printer. Tap the "Port" list and select the "Anycom Bluetooth Card" entry (below left)

bullet

Tap "Start Printing" and you will see the "BlueCard Printing" screen (below right) which will establish connection and print to the printer that has the Anycom Printer Module attached.

Printing Using Socket Bluetooth CF Card

bullet

To print with the Socket Bluetooth CF card, start the printing software and, at the "Select Printer" screen, select your printer. Tap the "Port" list and select the "Bluetooth: Socket CF Card" entry (below left)

bullet

Tap "Start Printing" and you will see the "New Bluetooth Devices" screen (below right).

bullet

If you have not already searched for Bluetooth devices in range, or if you do not see the printer you want to print to and press "Find" button, you will see "Bluetooth Device Search" screen (below left).

bullet

Tap on the desired printer and tap the "Select" button to begin printing (below right).
