 PPT8800 Scanner Dialup & FTP

 Symbol 8800 running Pocket PC 2003 Only (Revised 05/03/2006)
 Note: This feature requires a Modem/Cradle to function.

 Configuring Dialup Connections


You must add a Dialup entry on your Scanner for each of the different Internet Service areas you travel through.

For the 8800, set your dial up connections as follows:

1)       Click: Start -> Settings.

2)       Click “Connections” tab at bottom of screen.

3)       Click “Connections” icon towards top of screen.

 

4a)       Click “Add a new modem connection" if one doesn't exist, or

4b)       Click “Manage existing connections” to edit an existing one.

 

5a) If only one entry exists, click the “Edit” button

5b) If more than one entry exists, highlight (select) the one you want to edit

      before clicking the “Edit” button

 

6)       Enter a name for the connection, keep it simple – example: “Joe’s Dialup”

7)       For Modem: select “Hayes Compatible on COM1:”

8)       Click the “Next” button

9)       For the phone number, enter it as though you were direct dialing it:

a.       Include Area Code if 10-digit dialing for local calls is required (it’s required in Texas).

Example: AAANNNNNNN (where “A” is area code, and “N” is 7-digit ISP dial up phone number)

b.       Include any “outside line access” codes – a PBX may require a “9,” (that’s a Nine – Comma).

Not usually required for residential dial up, only if you’re dialing within an Office/PBX environment.

10)   Click the “Next” button

11)   Enter the User Name for the Dial up (ISP) connection (Not the FTP User Name!)

12)   Enter the Password for the Dial up (ISP) connection (Not the FTP Password!)

13)   Leave the Domain field Blank/Empty.

 

14)   Click the “Advanced” button

a.       On the “General” tab:

                                                               i.      Baud Rate = 57,600 (If you have a noisy phone system, try 38,400)

                                                             ii.      Checkmark is checked for “wait for dial tone”

                                                            iii.      Checkmark is checked for “Cancel if not connected in”

                                                            iv.      Set cancel timeout to “120” seconds (the default)

 

b.       On the “Port Settings” tab:

                                                               i.      Data bits = 8

                                                             ii.      Parity = None

                                                            iii.      Stop bits = 1

                                                            iv.      Flow Control = Hardware

                                                              v.      Checkmark is cleared for “Use Terminal before connecting”

                                                            vi.      Checkmark is cleared for “Use Terminal after connecting”

                                                           vii.      Checkmark is cleared for “Use dialing commands manually”

 

c.       On the “TCP/IP” tab:

                                                               i.      “Use server-assigned IP address” is selected.

Use specific IP address” is NOT selected)

                                                             ii.      Checkmark is cleared for “Use slip”

                                                            iii.      Checkmark is checked for “Use software compression”

                                                            iv.      Checkmark is checked for “Use IP header compression”

 

d.       On the “Servers” tab:

                                                               i.      “Use server-assigned addresses” is selected.

Use specific server address” is NOT selected)

                                                             ii.      Everything else on this screen is left blank/empty

 

15)   Click the “OK” button on the top right corner of this screen

(This takes you back to the User name and Password screen)

 

16)   Click the “Finish” button

(This takes you back to the “My ISP” screen with your dialup entry listed)

 

17)   Click the “OK” button on the top right corner of this screen.

(This takes you back to the “Connections” main screen)

 

18)   Click the “OK” button on the top right corner of this screen.

(This takes you back to the “Settings” main screen)

 

19)   Click the “X” button on the top right corner of this screen.

(This takes you back to the “Today” screen on your Scanner)
