Stand Alone Installation
Network Installation
You can install any of
In-Quiz-It's products as stand alone on a single computer,
or networked, where all users share the same data files from
a central file server. Please note that the Server doesn't have to be
"Server-Class" hardware (it helps...) but can be the fastest
workstation in your possession.
|
|
Stand Alone
- Single
Computer |
-
Insert
the Program CD into the CD drive - if AutoDetect is enabled, the
installation will begin automatically. -
If
nothing happens for about a minute, explore the CD for the setup
program which will be the application name and version number,
followed by ".exe" ( For
example "Utrapit4001.exe", "PestClick151.exe", etc... )
-
Double-Click on this file, and the installation will begin.
-
Accept
the default directory for installation.
(If you are upgrading, the install wizard will locate/display the proper
directory for you)

|
New Install
|
Upgrade
- Do not select
"Install New Module" if you are upgrading the same module type.
- Do select
"Install New Module" if you desire installing a different module
type.

Networked - File Server |
|
Prepare the Server:
|
|
Corporate Data Center:
-
Have a network
administrator perform the initial software installation (from a
workstation), as
directories will need to be created on the server - in most cases only
"Admins" are authorized to do this. Optionally, the
Admins can just create the directory structure and relay the
information to the desktop support department - whatever is easiest...
|
Small/Medium Business:
-
Create a directory or folder
on a shared drive, such as "InQuizIt", then
beneath this create a different subdirectory for each of In-Quiz-It's products being
installed, such as "UTrapIt", "UTracIt", or
"UTermIt".
-
Remember the directory structure
as you'll need this for the workstation's software installation.
|
|
Prepare the Workstation:
-
If one doesn't exist, map a drive letter that points
to the above server's shared resource, and remember the drive letter chosen
as you'll need this during installation. For example, say Drive
"F:" maps to your company's public data storage area.
Install the Software:
-
Run the installation program
(for example: "UTrapIt35.exe").
-
Select the installation location
(local hard drive) where the executable files will reside. This defaults to
"C:\Program Files\ModuleType\", where module type is
MultiPlant, Remote, etc...
-
Click the "Network
Install" checkbox when it appears - this will activate a network data
path entry field, complete with a browse button.
-
Using the above example of
"F:" drive being mapped to your server's shared resource - click
the browse button and select drive "F:" from the drive selection
list, then browse to the correct directory and select it. Using the above
examples for installing U-Trap-It, your network data path would be "F:\InQuizIt\UTrapIt\".
-
Repeat the workstation
preparation for all desired (and licensed) workstations, and install the
software using the same network data path.
