Getting a Phone Chip (SIM Card) for Compatible Scanners |
|
This should help you acquire a Phone Chip for your
MC35 / 70 / 75 scanner. |
|
1) |
Make sure the scanner you have has a location for SIM Card installation.
(SIM = Subscriber Identity Module
- the "phone chip" itself)
|
|
2) |
At present, only AT&T
(Cingular) chips are supported. |
|
3) |
You will need to go to a
Corporate Cingular store, taking the scanner(s) you want
"data-enabled" with
you. Note: A "typical" Cingular store wont be able to help you.
(Go to www.cingular.com to locate a
corporate store near you)
|
|
4) |
Ask the sales agent about a "Data Telemetry" package for your device(s).
There are 3 packages normally available:
|
|
|
|
a) Voice Only (and that's all you get)
b) Voice with
Media Package (does not allow Data Transfers)
c) Data Telemetry (you want this) - allows Data Transfers + 911 access. |
|
5) |
You will need to open the battery compartment, and remove the
battery to
expose the IMEI number the agent will need. Try to get the IMEI number as
quickly as possible to avoid any data loss on the scanner.
( This is why we told you to bring the
scanner with you... ) |
|
6) |
Once you receive the provisioned SIM Card,
use the following procedure to
install it: |
|
|
|
a) Turn off the scanner.
b) Remove the battery cover and battery.
c) Open the "slide cage" for the SIM Card and insert the card with the
shiny contacts on the underside.
(The "cut corner" should be on the bottom left when inserting)
d) Reinstall the battery, and the battery cover.
e) Turn the scanner
on.
f) If, after a
few minutes, you don't see any bars or the word "AT&T"
on the "Today" screen, you may need to soft boot your scanner. |
