Scanner Utilities

Programming Scanner       Loading Inspector Data       Initialize Scanner

Programming the Scanner

First, "programming" a scanner is not the same as loading Inspector Data (or CE Data).

Programming the scanner refers to installing the Mobile Data Collector program on to the scanner. To perform this procedure, the Control Center must be open. This enables the "Scanner" option on the menu bar (at the top of the program screen).

The Programming Process:

  • Make sure Control Center is open.

  • Click "Scanner", then "Program Scanner".

  • Select the correct Make and Model of the scanner being programmed.

  • Click the "Begin Programming Scanner" button.

  • Confirm that you actually want to program the scanner, by clicking "Yes"

  • At this point 1 of 2 actions will happen, depending on the scanner type:

    • The Programming Applet will begin, or

    • You will be asked to confirm the OS version of your scanner:

      • Pocket PC2002, ( if "No" is clicked, it assumed you have WinCE 3.0)

      • To see which version you have, display the "Today" screen - if you have the words "Microsoft Mobile" running vertically up the right side, then the scanner is running Pocket PC2002 - if not, then it's running WinCE 3.0

  • Accept the default installation directories (clicking "Yes" if asked to create directory) -IMPORTANT! You must have permissions to create directories the first time you execute this process, or it won't work. Get an IT Support person, or Network Admin if you experience an "Access Denied" or other permissions-related issue. In-Quiz-It Software technical support does not support modifying your network, nor provide workaround solutions for bypassing policy restricted workstations. Get your IT support staff to provide the access rights and resources to do this - this is the proper method, and maintains established corporate security polices (if they exist).

Loading Inspector (CE) Data

Manual Data Copy Instructions (QuickLink)

Loading Inspector Data (also called "CE Data") is the process of transferring the selected (tagged) custom data (such as products, inspectors, evidence, etc...) to the scanner.

This is not to be confused with "programming" a scanner [see above] which is the process of installing the Data Collection program that uses the Inspector Data being loaded now. This process requires closing the Control Center first. This enables the "Utilities" option on the menu bar (at the top of the program screen). What client and property info that is to be loaded to a particular scanner is simply a matter of choice. Some companies load all clients and their properties to every scanner, others load only the clients and properties being serviced by a specific inspector. There is no "right" or "wrong" in this regard, and it is not our policy to tell you how to run your business.

Verify your tagged items prior to loading Inspector Data.

For U-Trap-It and U-Trac-It programs:

  • Tag all desired Accounts in the Associated Accounts screen - be sure to verify all account types (Industrial. Commercial, and Residential).

  • For Industrial Accounts, there are no additional steps needed.

  • For each Commercial Account (change the account as needed):

    • Load each account, one at a time, and tag the desired Sites from the site list. (Tagging a commercial account doesn't tag their respective sites)

  • For each Residential Account (change the account as needed):

    • Load each Client, one at a time, and tag the desired Properties from the list. (Tagging a residential account doesn't tag their respective properties)

For PestClick programs:

  • Tag all desired Zones in the Associated Zones screen.

  • For each Zone (change the Zone as needed):

    • Tag all desired Clients.

  • For each Client:

    • Tag the desired Properties (Tagging a client doesn't tag a property)

For all programs:

  • Close the Control Center to enable access to the Maintenance Tables (this is accessed by clicking "File" then "Maintenance" then "Update Tables").

  • For each control tab in the Maintenance Tables:

    • Tag the desired items in the list being displayed (this is usually the same for all inspectors, so most often this is done just once).

Load Inspector Data Process:

  • Close the Control Center.

  • Click "Utilities" then "Scanner" then "Load CE Device with Inspector Data".

  • Confirm that you want to transfer the data by clicking "Load Scanner with Data" button.

  • Optionally, you can click the "Close" button at this point to abort the loading process.

Initialize Scanner

Initializing the Scanner refers to reinitializing the Desktop-to-Scanner ActiveSync connection, and not with any data transfer operations.

This process performs the following actions:

  • Closes the current ActiveSync connection.

  • Resets the connection speed to the highest possible.

  • Disables the partnership routine - sets it to "Guest" automatically when docked.

  • Restarts the ActiveSync process

It is recommended that you perform this process only if you do not want to synchronize email, contact information, etc...
