 PPT2800 Scanner Dialup & FTP

Symbol 2800 running Pocket PC 2002 Only
Note: This feature requires a Symbol Snap-on Modem to function.

 Configuring Dialup Connections

You must add a Dialup entry on your Scanner for each of the different Internet Service areas you travel through.

The Scanner Configuration Process:

  • Define your Dialing Location

  • Modify the Dialing Pattern.

  • Create a Dialup Connection Entry

Defining your Dialing Location:

  • Click "Start" , then "Settings"

  • Click the "Connections" tab at the bottom of the screen.

  • Click the "Connections" icon.

  • Click the "Dialing Locations" tab at the bottom of the screen.

  • For "Location", select "Home"

  • Enter the Area Code for Home.

  • For "Location" , select "Work".

  • Enter the Area Code for Work.

Modifying the Dialing Pattern:

  • Click the "Dialing Patterns" button.

  • If you're connecting to the Internet without going through a business phone system, you will need to remove the "9," from all entries, as the "9," command simply requests an outside line from such systems - but "9," will be interpreted as actually dialing the number "9" from a standard house phone - you can see the potential for problems, here...

  • Click the "OK" button in the top right corner of the screen.

  • Proceed to add a Dialup Entry, by clicking the "Connections" tab at the screen bottom.

Creating a Dialup Connection Entry:

  • You're presented with 3 selection boxes on the main screen:

    • The top one should read "Internet Settings"

    • The middle one should read "Work Settings"

    • Under "My Network card connects to:" should read "The Internet"

If any of the them are different, then change the selections to match the above. The only one that needs to be configured is the top one.

  • Under "Internet Settings", click the "Modify" button.

  • If no entries are listed, click "New..."

  • Enter a meaningful name for the connection. If you service different cities or states, you will probably want to name them by city (i.e. Dallas, Houston, Austin, etc...)

  • For the modem, select "Powered Serial on COM7:"

  • For Baud Rate, select "57600".

  • You do not need to click/configure the "Advanced" options.

  • Click the "Next" button.

  • Enter the Area Code, and Phone Number for this entry. Note: if you must dial a 10-digit phone number for local calls, also put the Area Code in the phone number field.

  • Click the "Next" button.

  • Accept the defaults on this screen, and click "Finish". (No, you're not done yet...)

  • You now need to enter your User Name and Password for Internet Access - Tap and Hold on the new Connection Entry, and select "Connect".

  • Enter your User Name and Password in the fields provided, and check the Save Password checkbox. Note: be very careful when entering these, as a wrong character will cause your logon to fail.

  • Logging in via dialup can take a couple of minutes, so please be patient.

  • To logout, click the icon in the title bar that looks like two opposing arrows, and select "end".
